Natural Gamine Ingenue
“Friendly and Flirty”
Of all the style types, Natural Gamine Ingenues have some of the friendliest, most approachable beauty.
The other essences (Classic, Dramatic, Ethereal, and Romantic) project varying degrees of formality, which means that their visual vibe can easily appear high-maintenance, aloof, or intimidating.
In contrast, the Natural Gamine Ingenue vibe tends to feel unpretentious, warm, and naturally magnetic. NGIs visually embody many of the internal qualities that draw us to other people.

Natural Gamine Ingenue Fashion
For unconventional-feeling style types, like Ethereal Dramatic, a discussion of their best outfits typically includes some version of, “So, modern fashion doesn’t exactly cater to your aesthetic...”
But when you have both Natural and Gamine, you receive the good news that modern fashion overflows with styles that suit you. Your essences are definitely on trend.
Ingenue does make your aesthetic more dressed up than society’s typical athleisure uniform. But modernity still has many Ingenue-influenced outfit trends, like:
Sweaters and Skirts
For this trendy style, layer a roomy Natural sweater (bonus if it’s in a Natural-friendly earth tone) over an Ingenue Gamine flared and pleated skirt.
Collared shirts can have a variety of essences, but with just the collar-peeking out, this one creates a playfully Gamine, color-blocked effect.
Finish off with casual sneakers.
Casual Dresses
A ribbed-knit (Natural) dress. The modest waist emphasis and delicate buttons flatter Ingenue.
The brown ankle boots work for Gamine and Natural.
This dress feels rather casual, especially with Natural colors that match the foliage, plus an Ingenue midi and gently flowy skirt.
Complete with Gamine booties.
Blouses and Jeans
Here’s an extremely Ingenue blouse, with eyelet lace, puff sleeves, and dainty buttons. Since the deep V-neckline is composed of eyelet lace, it still feels delicate rather than intimidating (even though deep Vs will often add Dramatic).
You can pair with Gamine skinny jeans and casual sneakers. If you want a more comfortable look (and if like me, you feel that “comfort” and “skinny jeans” exist in different universes), choose relaxed-fit or wide-leg Natural jeans instead.
Natural Gamine Ingenue Makeup and Hair
Natural Gamine Ingenues have a huge variety of hair and makeup options:
If you have a lot of Natural, you can rock a very minimal, “no-makeup makeup” Iook.
If you have a lot of Gamine, you can do bold, inventive makeup.
And if you have a lot of Ingenue, you can do sweet, pretty makeup.
Or you can blend aspects of all these looks.
Natural Gamine Ingenue Aubrey Plaza is extremely pretty in this makeup.
Intriguingly, the dark tightlining all the way around her eyes is a challenging look for the Natural and Ingenue essences to pull off.
But Gamines are highly flattered by makeup styles that highlight your features in a graphic, attention-getting way. So Aubrey has enough Gamine to rock the tightlining.
She also appears to wear subtle blush and lipgloss, which suits Ingenue. The gloss’s vivid color fits Gamine.
What works well for Natural is her straight, deeply-parted hair.
Natural Gamine Laura Marano is also so pretty here, wearing a very similar makeup look to Aubrey Plaza’s above.
But while the tightlining felt highly harmonious for Aubrey, I think there would be debate if it’s Laura’s ideal look. She does pull it off, thanks to having Gamine. But her eyes appear round enough to potentially have Ingenue, without any Gamine (though I would have to formally analyze her individual features to be confident in this).
Ingenue eyes don’t tend to be flattered by all-around tightlining. If Laura Marano had skipped the tightlining on her lower lashline, or just tightlined half or a third of the way across, this makeup might be even more harmonious.
This is why even after you learn style type, you may still have to do some experimenting to reveal your best makeup. All your essences will contribute to your most flattering makeup, but not all your essences are reflected in all your facial features. (For example, as an NGI you might have purely Ingenue eyes and purely Gamine lips, or vice versa). So the makeup that best flatters your individual features won’t necessarily be a combo of all your essences.
I also like Laura Marano’s deep side part, though the elongated, full waves would best for a Romantic Ethereal blend.
For flattering NGI curls, her sister Vanessa Marano can help us out:
Curls that form a tight, coiled shape, like Vanessa’s here, are awesome for Ingenue. The straighter lengths around her face help tie in her Natural and Gamine (both of which prefer straight hair).
NGIS Laura and Vanessa Marano show how style essences often run in families.
And again, Vanessa is our third demonstration of how great dark eyeliner and a pink or berry lip are for NGI.
In contrast, emphasized eyes paired with very light lips don’t tend to be NGIs’ best look:
For finding your best makeup, you’ll want to consider not just your individual features (“I’m putting Gamine emphasis on my eyes, check, and light pink Ingenue color on my lips, check”) but also how your makeup reads as a whole.
Emphasizing the eyes with dark, unblended liner does work for Gamine, and a pale pink lip does work for Ingenue—but together they create a severe contrast between the eyes and lips that’s better for non-NGI essences (especially Dramatic blends).
As an NGI, you can play around a lot with various shades of red and pink lips. And your free-thinking Gamine essence even allows you to delve into adventurous colors like blue:
Nathalie is also great in more understated makeup:
Since Natural and Ingenue tend to be flattered by a gentle makeup application, “understated makeup” can seem like an easy default for Natural Gamine Ingenue. But not all types of gentle-appearing makeup will be ideal for NGI:
Stephanie Hsu is amazingly beautiful in anything. Since her eyes here aren’t too emphasized, the light pink lip really works—there isn’t a jarring contrast between her eyes and lips.
The one thing I might change about the makeup: she appears to be wearing a ton of highlight. This kind of extremely glowy skin finish is great for Ethereal, but NGI will want to go for a subtler, more natural-looking glow.
Natural Gamine Ingenue Vibe
Some style types (cough, Ethereal Dramatic) tend to project a more formal aura and so are particularly flattered by serious or even stern facial expressions. Ethereal Dramatics aren’t necessarily their most harmonious with big smiles.
The opposite tends to be true of NGI: friendly Natural, vivacious Gamine, and sweet Ingenue combine to create incredibly warm, inviting beauty.
This warm, inviting nature is also echoed in NGI’s best fashion:
Natural styles feel down-to-earth and unpretentious—clothes that visually signal that you’re not trying to appear more impressive or important than others.
Ingenue fashion feels sweet, and Ingenue style elements—ruffles, short flared skirts—are often described as “flirty.”
Gamine fashion also tends to have a flirty vibe, with a mischievous and playfully teasing quality (think crop tops and mini skirts).
So overall, NGI beauty feels friendly, flirty, and warm—even when the person has a cool color season.
Color Season Connection
Style types that blend both Natural and Gamine tend to be an inherently harmonious match for warm color seasons: Autumn and Spring.
This is because Natural and Gamine (especially combined) project warm, friendly, welcoming energy.
And with the Natural Gamine Ingenue, this inviting energy is further enhanced by Ingenue’s kind, sweet, flirty feel.
So if you’re an Autumn or Spring NGI, you’ll likely find that it’s easy to express your season’s vibe through color: you can simply wear your literally warm colors and know that they’ll communicate a figuratively warm impression.
What if you’re a cool season NGI?
Any color season can absolutely look harmonious with any style type. You’ll just want to strategically wear your colors in a way that suits your essences:
For Gamine, that means a playful use of color, including color-blocking and wearing colors that feel cheerful, like yellow and orange.
For Natural, that means wearing colors that feel earthy, like your season’s browns, tans, deeper oranges, greens, and blues together in one outfit.
And for Ingenue, that means wearing colors that feel simultaneously cheerful, sweet, and girlish, like light pink, pastels, and other gentle-feeling colors.
If you’re a very cool-toned NGI (True Winter or True Summer), your vibe might especially emphasize the bold, daring nature of Gamine (if your colors are intense True Winter ones) or the laidback, understated feel of Natural (if your colors are calm True Summer ones).
In this case, your vibe as an NGI might be more Friendly, Flirty, and Bold (if you’re a Winter), or Friendly, Flirty, and Calm (if you’re a Summer).
While our style types tend to influence the primary feel of our face’s vibe, our color seasons can inject additional qualities into our beauty.
So style analysis can help us both to celebrate the qualities we share with others, and to better appreciate and respect our fascinating differences.
